Lake Garfield Safe Boating Rules

No wake in the channel.
No waterskiing/boarding/tubing on the small (west) portion of the lake.
No one under 12 years of age may operate any motorboat, unless
accompanied on-board by an adult (18+). Ages 12-15 only if they have
passed an approved safe boating course, or, if accompanied by an adult (18+).
No one under the age of 16 may operate a PWC – no exceptions.
No waterskiing/boarding/tubing without at least 2 people in the boat
(driver and spotter).
Be courteous to non-powered boats as they have the right-of-way.
Always travel in a counter-clockwise direction when pulling a skier/rider,
and at other times when possible.
No watercraft shall be operated recklessly or dangerously.
No watercraft shall be operated in a noisy or obnoxious manner.
No operating a motorboat or PWC within 150’ of any public or private
swimming area.
No operating at greater than headway speed (6 mph or less) when within
150’ of a swimmer, water-skier, dock, float or mooring area, or when the
operator's vision is obscured in any way.
A skipper is responsible for damage caused by his/her wake, so reduce
speed when appropriate.
U.S. Coast Guard approved life vests are required for each person.
No operating any vessel under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Report all unsafe boating activities to the Monterey Police (528-3211) or
the Lake Garfield Assistant Harbormaster (Dean Amidon 528-1233).
